Dawkins is a ‘Christian’ in an Islamic world

If Paul’s conversion on the road to Damascus was miraculous, then Richard Dawkins’ admission to being a cultural Christian is unfathomable. So what caused it? The answer is simple, the rise of Islam. As it stands at the door of Britishness, Dawkins forgot just how ‘Christian’ he was as British society’s flirtations with Islam have gone a step too far.

The irony of Dawkins conversion is not lost. The 83-year-old atheist has spent a lifetime criticising Christianity. In his bestseller, The God Delusion, he wrote, ‘Do those people who hold up the Bible as an inspiration to moral rectitude have the slightest notion of what is actually written in it?

Now, Dawkins finds himself at the mercy of Christianity.

Genuflecting to the  ‘moral rectitude’ of Christian ideals must be painful for Dawkins to admit. Yet, it’s not that painful when you consider the rise of Islam across the UK. In an interview with LBC, Dawkins was asked about his thoughts on Ramadan lights being displayed in London’s West End during Easter weekend.

Dawkins began an unexpected verbal tirade in defense of Christianity during his LBC interview:

“I do think we are culturally a Christian country. I call myself a cultural Christian.”

He went on: “I’m not a believer, but there is a distinction between being a believing Christian and a cultural Christian.”

“I love hymns and Christmas carols, and I sort of feel at home in the Christian ethos, and I feel that we are a Christian country in that sense.”

“So I call myself a cultural Christian, and I think it would be truly dreadful if we substituted any alternative religion.”

He continued: “If I had to choose between Christianity and Islam, I’d choose Christianity every single time.

“It seems to me to be a fundamentally decent religion, in a way that I think Islam is not.”

“The way women are treated in Christianity is not great about that, it has had its problems with female vicars and female bishops, but there is an active hostility to women, which is promoted, I think, by the holy books of Islam.”

Western flirtations with Islam have gone too far.

Dawkins isn’t alone in feeling that there is an active campaign to Islamify Britain, and yet the insistence on preferentially celebrating Ramadan during Easter is disturbing even to the mildest of ‘cultural Christians’ like Dawkins. But why? I suspect that the symbolic, however insignificant, does hold a unique position within the West. Is the UK really ready to forget about the Christian symbolism of Easter—resurrection, hope and instead replace it with Islam’s Ramadam? Apparently, the political class of London is.

British Muslims have an irresistible urge to embrace dangerous Islamic loyalties. When Charlie Hebdo, a French satirical magazine, depicted the prophet Mohammed in a cartoon back in 2015, two Algerian born brothers embarked on a murderous rampage. In a BBC poll surveying one thousand British Muslims on their opinions regarding the terrorist attack, a staggering 27% said they had ‘sympathy’ with Charlie Hebdo attackers. Why is this significant? It means that one third of British Muslims surveyed believed in the law of the land until a transgression is committed against the house of Islam.

While Orientalism and Western foreign policy interventions are blamed for Muslim discontent, the original aggressors were the Muslim world, not vice versa. In the lead-up to the first Barbary War between America and the Ottoman Empire, the U.S. had no history of aggression with the Muslim world. The Barbary states had preemptively captured several American ships and engaged in vast marine slavery expeditions.

In his book, ‘Christian slaves, Muslim masters’ Robert Davis estimates that one million ‘white slaves’ were captured during the Barbary slave trade.

In hopes of negotiating a peace, Thomas Jefferson travelled to London in 1786 to meet Tripoli’s envoy, Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja. When Jefferson inquired as to why the barbary states engaged in war against ‘nations who had done them no injury’, the Ottoman Ambassador replied:

“ It was written in the Quran, that all nations that had  not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, for whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave, and every Muslim who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise.”

When examined from the point of view of the Quran, the reply of the Ottoman ambassador is not so surprising after all.

By definition, non Muslims in the U.K. are non-believing infidel sinners, according to Quranic edicts.

Surah 5:33 reads, “They shall be slain or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off.” Sura 9:5 says, “Slay the infidels wherever you find them… and lie in wait for them… and establish every stratagem (of war against them).” Another section, Sura 47:4–9, promises paradise to whoever cuts off the head of an infidel.

Islamic aggressions against the West continue. When you consider that terrorism has a Qur’anic basis, its not hard to understand the fervour behind Islamic motivated terrorism. The West and its allies are viewed as infidels and unbelievers to many in the Muslim world and since the West isn’t willing to cave in, at least until recently, sporadic acts of terror are justified in the name of Islam. The 2005, 7/7 bombings in central London were organised by a group of Muslim terrorists, Hasib Husain, Mohammad Sidique Khan, Germaine Lindsay, and Shehzad Tanweer. The bombs, created using improvised explosive devices, were set off in three separate explosions, causing fifty six deaths, including terrorists, and leaving seven hundred and eighty four people injured. On the 22nd May, 2013, Lee Rigby was ‘hacked to death’ by two Muslim perpetrators, Michael Abeodeale, and Michael Adebolajo. The pair claimed they were “soldiers of Allah .”

On the 22nd March , 2017, Khalid Masood, a British Muslim, drove his Hyundai onto Westminster Bridge, driving over pedestrians, killing four. He then exited the vehicle in the grounds of the palace at Westminster and fatally stabbed a police officer to death before being shot by police. At an Arriane Grande concert on May 22nd May, 2017, an Islamic suicide bomber, Salman Abedei, detonated a bomb in the Manchester Arena, killing twenty two people and injuring more than two hundred victims. Christianity  doesn’t encourage terrorism, Islam does.

One-third of British Muslims want Sharia law.

The radical Muslim cleric, Anjem Choudary, an outspoken an wildly controversial British Muslim, spoke of his desire for Britain to be under ‘Sharia law’ in 2009. In 2023, Choudary was arrested by British police for terror-related offenses. More recently, a British school teacher has come under fire by Muslims for showing a ‘cartoon of the prophet Mohammed’ to students at a school in Yorkshire. After receiving death threats, the teacher still remains in hiding, and worse, according to a Birmingham Muslim cleric, the teacher, who has been forced into hiding, should be prosecuted.

In case we forget how brutal Sharia law is, let’s remember that it’s being practiced in Afghanistan today. Under Shariah, the penalty for adultery out of wedlock is one hundred lashes and banishment for a year. The penalty for adultery in wedlock is one hundred lashes and being stoned to death.  If this sounds esoteric and unrealistic, the Taliban’s supreme leader in Afghanistan just announced that, ‘You say it’s a violation of women’s rights when we stone them to death, but we will soon implement the punishment for adultery,” he said. We will flog women in public. We will stone them to death in public.”

Dawkins’ remarks about ‘Islam’s treatment of women’ are hardly breaking news, and the link between Quranic edicts and the treatment of women is undeniable. In Sunnah An Nisa 34, husbands are instructed to ‘hit or strike’ their wife. While Muslim apologists like to claim that the ill treatment of women is a universal problem or a cultural problem, few are willing to admit that it is an Islamic problem stemming from some very problematic Islamic doctrines. A health study in Egypt found that 86% of Egyptian women were subject to female genital mutilation. One study in Syria found that 21% of women had experienced domestic violence, and 48% of that group had been beaten.  A 2011 report found that 80% of women in Pakistan suffered from domestic violence. In a 2013 report from Afghanistan, 85% of women reported experiences with domestic violence.

While the appalling treatment of women is widely accepted in majority Muslim countries, you’d never think that uncivilised, inhumanely archaic Islamic imports would ever be an issue in the UK. Yet here we are.

Over 9,000 women are forced into arranged marriages in the UK each year.

Islam also has a problem with understanding the age of sexual consent. The prophet Mohammed himself, according to the Sunnah, married Aisha, a six year old girl. While Muslim apologists debate the age of Aisha at marriage, Muslim clerics of today like Daniel Haqiqatjou openly embrace the notion of childhood marriage: “When there are signs of physical maturity, it becomes permissible for the husband, in Islamic law, to have marital relationships or consummate the relationship with his bride.” When asked by the interviewer about ‘precocious puberty’ the cleric replied, If there are signs of physical maturity, then yes.”

It’s no wonder that Islam’s problem with paedophilia in the UK is out of control.  While the politically correct culture of wilful blindness seeks to dismiss the problem, the most notorious cases of child grooming in the U.K. were committed by British Muslim ‘grooming gangs’ of ‘Pakistani’ origin. When Quilliam, a British think tank, founded by Majid Nawaz to combat Islamism, claimed that 84% of grooming gangs are Asian, the findings were met with a storm of criticism. The report was widely condemned for ‘inaccuracies’, with the home office insisting that the majority of sex offenders were ‘white men’.

Yet British Muslims are overrepresented as perpetrators in child sex abuse rings.

The Rochdale sex abuse ring in Manchester was a Muslim based paedophile ring that groomed, sexually abused, and exploited by a total of forty two British Pakistani men who have been jailed for a combined total of 432 years.

Sound like an isolated case? I think not. The Oxford child sex abuse ring involved twenty two British Muslim men who committed sex crimes against minors from 1998–2012. Over decades, young girls from dysfunctional backgrounds were given cocaine, alcohol, and heroin and then raped, some prostituted, and violently tortured. Led by the ring leader, Mohammad Karrar forced a 12-year-old girl into prostitution and charged men between £400 and £600  to have sex with the underage victim.

The Telford child sex abuse scandal estimates that over 1,000 minors were sexually abused over decades by  a gang of  British Muslim men in the English county of Shropshire. The ring leaders  Ahdel ‘Eddie’ Ali and Mubarek ‘Max’ Al received 26 and 22 year sentences, respectively. The men involved  were charged with child sex abuse, rape, prostitution, child trafficking, and child grooming.

Apparently, protecting race and the  name of Islam was more important than protecting the child sex abuse victims. The Telford grooming gang was able to operate for decades because of political correctness. A 2022 inquiry into the abuse estimated that it had taken place over a 40 year period, and some cases were not thoroughly investigated due to “nervousness about race” and that teachers and youth workers were urged to stay silent about the sexual abuse due to sensitivities about the ‘races’ of the accused.

But it’s time the UK acknowledged there is a problem with Islam and child sex abuse.

Why was it that ‘white British girls’ constituted the primary victim  demographic of the grooming gangs? The answer is, they were ‘unbelievers’ and, therefore, abuse against them is justified. Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Dr. Taj, a Muslim imam from the Islam congregation of Oxford, insisted that ‘race and religion’ were inextricably linked to the recent spate of grooming rings, in which Muslim men have targeted underage white girls.

“The view of some Islamic preachers towards white women can be appalling. They encourage their followers to believe that these women are habitually promiscuous, decadent, and sleazy — sins that are made all the worse by the fact that they are kaffurs or non-believers.

Their dress code, from miniskirts to sleeveless tops, is deemed to reflect their impure and immoral outlook. According to this mentality, these white women deserve to be punished for their behaviour by being exploited and degraded.”

In an ideal world, Richard Dawkins would be happy to lambast all religions, but things have changed. His ‘conversion on the road to Islam’ wasn’t an impulsively driven flight of arbitrary choice; Dawkins, like most of us, knows that all religions have blood on their hands. But not all religions are ‘fundamentally decent’. Islam was spread by the sword through military conquests of the Arabian Peninsula by a 4th-century warlord named Mohammed. Christ was a 1st century AD Jewish preacher who taught forgiveness, to love your enemies, and to ‘love one another.’ Crucified under Roman rule in Judea, his followers preached his message of love, forgiveness, and faith.

From Islam, we get terrorism, the Niqab, Sharia law, forced marriages, the persecution of women, and honour killings. From Christianity, we get the separation of church and state, universal human rights, and international law. If the U.K. was founded on the ‘ethos’ of the Christian faith, as Dawkins rightly points out.

Dawkins is, for once, the voice of reason in a dessert of the blind. Before the U.K. embarks on redesigning its cultural narrative, we ought to ask, What would we lose?
